During the snowmobile season, the
many clubs and volunteers work hard
to maintain the trails.

concentrations of inland freshwater
lakes including over 1300 lakes and 73

of your door. Panfish, bass, walleye, trout, northern pike, and musky can
be found throughout the lakes of Vilas County.
Discover the exhilaration of a winter wonderland! There are over 70 miles of
groomed
snowmobile trails in Conover alone, that link up to a network of over 500
miles of trails in Vilas County. 80 miles of X-country skiing trails abound in the
Nicolet National Forest. Anyone can easily travel North into the Upper Penninsula
of Michigan, or head South to watch the World Championship Snowmobile Derby.
We invite everyone to join us for what is nationally recognized as some of the finest
snowmobiling in the Midwest!!

    March 1, 2010
    Trail Conditions: Fair
    Snow Cover: 18-20 + inches
Early a.m. temp is 20 degrees, rising to a high of 30 with overcast skies and possible snow. The trails
have been great, but icy in early morning, they are flat and hard. The heavy traffic, full sun and warm
temps over the past week has taken its toll. We got an inch+ of new snow overnight, with a promise of
more to come, but we need a good snowfall to freshen things up, and snow is forecast. This is the time of
year that we get some heavy snows, hope it proves true this year.
A WORD OF CAUTION: PLEASE BE A GOOD SNOWMOBILE AMBASSADOR. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW
RIDERS NOT RESPECTING PRIVATE PROPERTY, TRESSPASSING AND SPEEDING DOWN VILLAGE
STREETS AND SNOWMOBILE ROUTES (MARKED WITH GREEN & WHITE SIGNS) CAUSING
COMPLAINTS TO BE FILED. THE COUNTY SHERRIF HAS CARS & SNOWMOBILE PATROL OUT
WATCHING. FOLLOW THE RULES & ENJOY A SAFE RIDE.
Groomers work their magic every night and every morning riding is GREAT.
Expect the trails to get beat up some by late afternoon, but they have been holding up remarkably well
    with the good ice base.
MOST WET AREAS & LAKES ARE NOW SAFELY FROZEN, BUT NOT ALL, AND MANY LAKES HAVE
LOTS OF SLUSH, SO BEWARE AND CHECK LOCAL CONDITIONS!
